Bridging the Gaps @ Tremough

Date Tuesday 22 March 2011
Time 11:00 to 15:00 (coffee and tea from 10:30)
Location Seminar Room 9, Peter Lanyon Building, Tremough Campus
This event provided an introduction to Bridging the Gaps (BTG) for those working at Tremough; an opportunity to help shape the future direction of the project and an overview of the research being carried out in the College of Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Sciences (CEMPS) both locally, in Camborne School of Mines, and in Exeter.

Following an introduction to BTG by Professor David Butler (PI), Dr Robin Durie talked about:  ‘Creative Cross-Disciplinary Working - a personal perspective’ and Professor Regenia Gagnier, lead for the policy strand of BTG, talked about plans for this aspect of the project. Professor Frances Wall then presented on ‘Research at Camborne School of Mines’ and Professors David Zhang and Trevor Bailey provided a whistle-stop tour of CEMPS research at Streatham Campus.

After informal discussions over lunch, there were useful breakout group discussions on: possible cross-disciplinary topic areas, future BTG events, how to overcome barriers to collaboration, how to make best use of ‘virtual’ research environments & how to promote collaboration across campuses.
