Phytophthora ramorum (P. ramorum) is a fungus-like pathogen causing extensive damage and mortality to trees and other plants. It has infected and killed large numbers of Japanese larch trees in the South West and other parts of the UK, but also affects other trees and plants such as rhododendron, viburnum and camellia.
This workshop brought together researchers and stakeholder organisations to give an overview of the impact so far of P. ramorum on the South West (and beyond) and its predicted spread based on computer modelling. Participants discussed the status of research into intervention and prevention of outbreaks and potential consequences, as well as potential research opportunities in addressing P. ramorum in the UK.
The workshop was funded by a Bridging the Gaps development fund award to Murray Grant, Trevor Bailey and Michael Winter, and by the British Society for Plant Pathology. It was organised by Murray Grant, Michael Winter, Trevor Bailey, Chris Thornton, David Studholme, Murray Grant, Steve Hughes and Helen Butler.
