Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

KTPs are the Government's leading knowledge transfer programme, designed to enable businesses to improve their effectiveness and productivity by accessing the knowledge and expertise contained within universities.

By accessing our knowledge and expertise via a KTP, companies can undertake strategically important projects including new product development, internal improvements or developing business strategies.

A KTP forms a partnership between your company and the University. This enables you to access the skills and expertise you require for projects designed to deliver strategic advantage to your company.  The partnership recruits a high calibre graduate (known as a KTP Associate) who facilitates this transfer of knowledge by working in your company under the joint supervision of you and an identified academic partner at the University. Projects typically run for 2-3 years.

You can find more information at the KTP website.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can help your organisation:

  • Find an innovative solution to promote growth
  • Increase competitive advantage
  • Access recently qualified people to lead on new projects
  • Access experts who can help take your business forward

Grant funding available

KTP is part-funded by Government - 67% or 50% dependent on the size of the partner organisation. The annual contribution for a small to medium sized enterprise (SME) would be approximately £22,000 and for a large organisation approximately £33,000.

Type of project / organisation

KTP has worked with over 5000 organisations in a wide range of areas, including manufacturing, design, bioscience, sustainability, financial services, marketing.

Any business sector, including ‘not for profit’ and public sector organisations such as the NHS, can take part.
