Working with you

When we work with you

We will seek to manage research and consultancy projects with your organisation according to the following principles:

Confidentiality

We will treat sensitive information confidentially at all stages of discussions. We regularly use established confidentiality agreements and in addition, we usually include confidentiality clauses in the vast majority of our contracts.

Contracts

We will set up agreements to cover any research and consultancy activity that is to be undertaken. This allows everyone’s rights and responsibilities to remain clear and provides legal protection for all. To help streamline the process we have developed a set of template contracts specifically tailored to the nature of the work. We appreciate that some companies may wish to use their own contracts. We will be happy to review these if required.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

We recognise that work of this nature may lead to the creation and use of Intellectual Property Rights. We deal with IPR on a case-by-case basis and we aim to facilitate fair and resonable outcomes relating to IPR ownership, and arrangements for exploitation of any IPR used in or arising from projects. The University, as a charitable research and teaching institution, will always require a licence to utilise IP created for publication, teaching and other academic purposes.

Warranties, guarantees and indemnities

It is the University’s policy to carry out work to the highest standards. However, due to the nature of this type of work it is not possible to provide any specific guarantees. Furthermore in normal circumstances, we will not accept any liability for the use of any results by your organisation.

As a publicly funded charitable institution the University is not in a position to accept unlimited liability and will seek to limit this wherever possible.

The Research & Knowledge Transfer service is recognised for its project management process through ISO 9001.

Accreditations and assurances

We actively seek accreditation by various standards bodies in order to assure partners and staff of our systems and professionalism.
