University spin-out wins PraxisUnico Impact Award

University of Exeter spin-out company Simpleware Ltd has been awarded a PraxisUnico Business Impact – Aspiring Award for its innovative computer simulation software.

The award recognises Simpleware’s achievements in developing world-leading software solutions for the conversion of 3D image data into high-quality computer models used for engineering design and simulation. The technology is underpinned by patented techniques, and is used to generate models for objects and structures for which no computer (CAD) drawings are available, such as the human body, composite materials, and soils. Over 85% of sales are export-based with customers ranging from international blue chip corporations to research institutes including high profile entities such as NASA, US Naval Research Laboratory, and Siemens as well as a wide range of universities worldwide.

Commenting on the award, Simpleware’s founder Prof Philippe Young said, “We are delighted that our software has been recognised by this accolade. It is a testament to the effort made by the whole team at Simpleware and the University of Exeter over a number of years. The award recognises our achievements in applying computer simulation techniques to complex structures and objects.”

The PraxisUnico Awards are given annually for outstanding achievements in the field of technology and knowledgetransfer. This year the panel received over 100 applications, and the success stories demonstrate the diversity of activities emerging from university and research laboratories in the UK.
