CoVentures supports innovative eco-commercial businesses in Cornwall.

CoVentures toolkit

Our comprehensive CoVentures approach helps companies raise capital and find suitable partners.

Introduction

The rationale of CoVentures is to provide support to develop a dynamic, innovative, knowledge-based business community in Cornwall. In the process of doing this we hope to increase the University of Exeter's impact on the regional economy via knowledge transfer activities.

The University has received significant EU Objective 1 and Convergence funding over the past ten years to assist in the development of its campus near Falmouth in Cornwall as part of the overall economic regeneration of Cornwall.

The CoVentures process has been applied to businesses started by students, graduates, and University staff, University research spin out businesses, and companies in Cornwall that have the potential to grow and develop ongoing relationships with the University through knowledge transfer activities.

The process has been developed by two specialist business mentors working alongside the University of Exeter's Research and Knowledge Transfer team, and is delivered through its commercial company, UEC Enterprises Ltd.

The business environment

Launching and growing new businesses in the UK has grown steadily more difficult in the last two decades.

Aims of the toolkit

The CoVentures scheme has been set up to achieve two business and finance aims.

Who is CoVentures for?

The CoVentures program and toolkit  is primarily aimed at early stage companies, but can also be applied to existing businesses with potential to expand into both new and existing markets.

Toolkit structure

The scheme involves the business being helped receiving a "wrap-around" of the necessary skills and connections to promote and enable growth.

Toolkit modules

The CoVentures toolkit can be divided into three broad areas. The whole process is tailored around each company, and generally only a few tasks are needed at any time.

Revenue model

Fee revenue is critical to delivering the aim of creating a sustainable business model for the CoVentures scheme.
