Induction
The purpose of the Campus Services Induction programme is to make the transition for the new employee into their new role as smooth as possible.
The contents of the Induction are not set in stone; some areas will be more relevant than others however it is important that employees are aware of all aspects. The Induction has been designed to give information about the University, its structure and how the people and departments fit into that structure.
Please request an induction handbook for all new starters at least a week before they start – workbooks will not automatically be sent to new starters.
In-house courses
Please see the Campus Services Training Calendar for a full list of Campus Services mandatory and legislative courses. In addition please view the University course calendar for a full A-Z of courses available to University staff.
All of the above courses need to be booked via Trent Self-service. Staff without access to the Trent system, please contact your Manager who will be able to book the course via Trent People Manager. Please be aware joining instructions will be sent to staff by email before the course start date. If joining instructions are required to be sent by Internal Mail please inform SLD@exeter.ac.uk.
External courses (seminars/conferences/workshops)
You will need to complete the external online application form for authorisation. Once approved, it is the responsibility of yourself or your service PA to book the conference, travel and accommodation, etc. Individuals are responsible for logging their training on the Personal Learning Record on Trent.
Professional qualifications/CPD
You will need to fill in the Campus Services Professional Training-CPD Form for authorisation. Once approved, it is your responsibility to book, training, exams, accommodation, travel etc. Individuals are responsible for logging their training on the Personal Learning Record on Trent.
Service bespoke training
Applications for bespoke training will need to be made using the bespoke learning and development form and must include evidence of the following:
- Links to Business Plan objectives
- What needs improving – eg knowledge/skills/behaviours
- The desired outcomes
- How Learning and Development will be evaluated (these will need to follow the ‘Kirkpatrick Model’
In order to book bespoke training a clear need for such training must be demonstrated.
To design and construct an appropriate workshop staff must then undertake a pre-evaluation meeting. This may be in the form of a 1-1, team meeting or focus group with their Manager to ascertain what challenges/issues are being faced, and what knowledge, competencies or skills are needed. In certain circumstances it may be possible for Business Support to run the focus group.
Once the above process has been agreed Yvonne Pinto will source the relevant facilitator/trainer to design the workshop based around the agreed requirements. The budget will then need to be authorised. Following this Yvonne Pinto will manage course requirements and will invite delegates to the workshop.
