Estate Management

One of the key roles of the Estate Development Service (EDS) is the professional management of the University’s estate and its development in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.

This includes:

  • Strategic management of the property portfolio.
  • Acquisition and disposal of built assets.
  • Management of town and country planning.
  • Master planning of estate development.
  • Management of leases, licences and other rights over property.
  • Maintenance of estate records including deeds and listed property details.

Streatham Campus Masterplan

Exeter City Council and the University of Exeter have prepared a Masterplan Framework for the University's Streatham Campus to guide its future development over the period to 2026.

The City Council adopted the Masterplan Framework as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) at its Executive Committee meeting held on 7 December 2010.

This Masterplan charts our planned future development to 2026 and beyond and indicates where we expect growth to occur. Whilst it is impossible to foresee all ends, we believe the Masterplan represents an accurate picture of the University’s future development needs. With the right support, and through close links with the Exeter Science Park, the University can continue to be an economic engine for the city, creating new jobs and prosperity throughout the 21st Century.

Acquisitions and disposals

In line with master planning and the University's strategic aims, EDS manages all property acquisitions and disposals. Most recently this has included the sale of a number of small off-campus residences that enabled the development of more appropriate, modern residential provision on campus.

Listed Buildings

The register of Locally Listed Buildings is maintained by Exeter City Council and records all buildings, structures or features which, whilst not listed by the Secretary of State, are important to Exeter's heritage due to their architectural, historic or archaeological significance.

The University’s list of buildings of historic and architectural interest details the listing category and current status of each of our listed buildings including what the masterplan says about them.

Leases and Tenancies

Working closely with Legal and Insurance Services, EDS manages tenancies, leases and licensing agreements for property where the University is either the tenant or the landlord. In order to minimise any risk to the University or its assets, it is essential that all such arrangements have a formal agreement in place.
