Providing students with insight into what employers expect at the various stages of the recruitment process can be enormously valuable for their career development and helps ensure they are better prepared to succeed in the recruitment process.
Skills sessions are part of a wider employability programme delivered by our service. To maintain a balanced programme, we can only offer a finite number of employer-led skills sessions per term. The topics and content covered must be relevant to student need and this is determined by the Careers team.
Skills sessions are open to students of any year group and degree discipline. Sessions should be generic as students attending are not expected to have prior knowledge of the company/industry of the delivering organisation.
Those delivering skills sessions must be experienced professionals in the area relevant to the training being delivered, e.g. reviewing applications, interviewing, conducting assessment centres, etc.
Bookings for Autumn 2017 and Spring 2018 are now open.
If you are a current student visiting this page, please visit My Career Zone for a list of all upcoming skills sessions.

It is also possible to deliver training courses related to specific industries, for example, journalism workshops.
Skills sessions are delivered on campus during the autumn and spring terms.
Lengths vary dependant on the topic but are usually between one – two hours.
For daytime skills session we recommend scheduling your presentation from lunchtime onwards. Evening skills sessions start at 18:00
Skills sessions are advertised via our website, email circulars and social media channels.
We operate an electronic sign-up system from our events web page, which will provide a good indication of the number of students likely to attend. Although not a direct recruitment event, the organisation delivering the skills session will have their name attached to any marketing of the activity.
Please note that all events booked through Employment Services can only be attended by University of Exeter students and graduates.
In order to benefit from all the publicity opportunities and get the best attendance, we urge you to book a date with us as early as possible - many employers secure their preferred dates when we first open for bookings (early February for the upcoming autumn term).
Bookings for spring term 2017 are now closed. Bookings for Autumn 2017 are now open.
There are no charges for delivering skills sessions which aid the employability of our students. However we respectfully request that such activity is not used as a direct recruitment tool.
