Why I went
Aside from the inspired, if slightly misleading name, the main reason I signed up for eXfactor was to make progress on my Exeter Award. I felt there might be a lot more to gain from an extended interactive program than employer presentations.
What I enjoyed
Whilst the professionals’ presentations were engaging and genuinely informative, I think I learnt most when putting their advice into practice in the group tasks. I really enjoyed the entrepreneurial challenge to come up with a product/service for festival-goers and working on a business plan and marketing plan for our group’s idea.
Why I would recommend it
I can honestly say that the eXfactor course enhanced my employability almost overnight. Beyond looking good on a CV, and being a great topic for discussion in interviews, the program significantly altered my perspective on the job market, the purpose of University, and helped me prioritise my life in a more constructive and fulfilling way.
What I gained from my experience
Since doing eXfactor, I have been more proactive as a Campus Brand Manager for MyVelo, I have secured a number of options for work experience in the summer, and I have begun to develop a few of my own entrepreneurial projects. All in all, the experience was thoroughly worthwhile and refreshingly challenging.
