Mark Elton

With over 22 years of broad environmental consultancy, Mark Elton is one of the UK’s leading urban regeneration focused environmental consultants.  Having held both Director and Business Director roles, he has managed teams for some of the UK’s major environmental and engineering consultancies. Emma Jolly

Senior Sustainability Consultant, Hoare Lea


Emma graduated from the University of Exeter (Cornwall Campus) in 2012 with a degree in Renewable Energy. Following her graduation, she completed a year internship as Sustainability and Low Carbon Project Officer as part of the joint estates services at the Penryn Campus where she was involved with energy management and reporting as well as coordinating and managing sustainability awareness initiatives. Since then, Emma has worked as a consultant in London, Reading and now Bristol where she is a Senior Sustainability Consultant for Hoare Lea, a multidiscipline engineering consultancy. Find out more

Working from a general management perspective, Richad has a key skill for leading people and delivering sustainable commercial outcomes across all elements of business. James Shears

Environmental and Sustainability Manager, Overbury and Morgan Lovell


James studied a BSc in Geography with Environmental Management at the University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus, continuing his studies with a MSc in Sustainable Development where he specialised in sustainable waste management. James was one of the first students to be part of the Green Consultants programme, through which he did a project on the Cornwall Campus and undertook an internship with Vinci Construction. Joel Smith

Sustainability Officer, University of Exeter

Joel works as a Sustainability Officer within the Estate Services team and leads on the delivery of the University's Sustainable Travel Plan; coordinating and developing a range of projects to encourage and enable sustainable travel to our staff, students and visitors. Joel also leads on engagement activities to enhance the delivery of both the Sustainable Travel Plan and the University's Carbon Management Plan; engaging a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to increase awareness and participation through a range of activities, techniques and events.

Joel is a qualified teacher and has worked in the education sector for 10 years. Prior to joining the University in July 2016, Joel spent three years working on a range of projects with schools, universities and communities for national sustainable transport charity Sustrans.

Karen Gallagher

Certification Manager at Advanced Certification Consultant and Trainer at Gallagher Consulting and Training

Karen is a sustainability practitioner with over 20 years’ experience of leading change for sustainability in large and complex organisations and in the provision of environmental consultancy, auditing and training functions in a range of different sectors. 

She is a Chartered Environmentalist, Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), an IEMA Registered Environmental Auditor and Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM). Karen was formally a Director and Vice Chair for the environmental charity, Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI). Find out more.
