Contact Details

During your final year the University's Career Service may ask you about your plans after graduation and for up-to-date contact details.

The Career Service collects this information in accordance with the University's data protection policy and will be used to promote bespoke careers support.  As careers messages are delivered through our alumni team after you graduate, any details collected will also be transferred to their database and used in accordance with their data protection statement

These contact details (including phone numbers), as well as those stored on the student records system (SITS) and My Career Zone, will be sent to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) for the Graduate Outcomes survey. See: www.hesa.ac.uk/collection-notices for full details.

About the survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey is a national survey capturing information about the activities and perspectives of graduates 15 months after they finish their studies. All graduates who completed a course will be asked to take part in the survey, in order to help current and future students gain an insight into career destinations and development. Your responses will also help the University of Exeter and your department evaluate and promote their courses.

As this is a statutory survey, the University is required by law to provide up-to-date contact details for all of our graduates so that the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) can send you the Graduate Outcomes survey.

The survey is of national significance as it allows policy makers, charities, journalists, researchers and others to understand the higher education sector and the state of the graduate labour market.

For more information please visit the HESA webpages.

What happens to your survey information?

The data will be used within the University by Student Employability and Academic Success (SEAS) staff and members of staff within your old department for the purposes outlined below.

The details of your destination will be made available, in an anonymised format, to individuals or organisations who have an interest in the destinations of our graduates. These include current and prospective students of the University who wish to find out about what occupations certain courses may lead to, and employers of graduates who wish to target their recruitment activities on specific courses.

Anonymised information may be used in University publications, such as the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Prospectus, publicity materials produced by University or on official University web page(s).

We'll also pass on your information to the Alumni office, who will use it according to their data protection policy.

The uses that the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) makes of your survey responses are described in detail here.
