Prospective employers will value all types of work experience. Work experience and internships
Internships
Most large graduate recruiters offer summer internships to undergraduates. These are generally aimed at students in their penultimate year. The closing dates are usually very early in the academic year (often mid-November to mid-January) so it is vital to apply as soon as possible.
Some large employers recruit graduates throughout the year. The University also run internship scheme usually for small and medium businesses (see SBP/GBP below). The Univerisity promotes equal opportunitiesopportunities in all internship recruitment.

Student Campus Partnerships

The Student Business Partnership scheme offers University of Exeter students from all disciplines the chance to gain constructive paid work experience within a number of well-respected businesses. Graduate Business Partnerships
Graduates from all disciplines can benefit from the University of Exeter’s graduate internship scheme – the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) – which is available throughout the year. The scheme places graduates with host organisations to work on specific projects for varying periods up to a year. A GBP internship will provide valuable work experience and enhance your CV and “kick start your career”. More than 70% of graduates are retained by their host organisations either on a permanent or extended contract.
All successfully placed graduates are paid a minimum of £8.60 per hour by their host organisation and will benefit from training, managed by the University. Final year students are encouraged to register for GBPs in advance of them graduating. Find out more.

Exeter University Officers Training Corps
The Exeter University Officers Training Corps is sponsored by the Army and selects 100 undergraduates each year. The main purpose is to develop leadership potential for either those destined for the Armed Forces or a civilian career. There is no obligation to join the Armed Forces after graduation!
