Thank you

We are incredibly grateful for every donation, no matter how large or small - they are all very much appreciated and make a real difference to the musical education of our young musicians and singers.

A donation of £10 or more will be recognised with special invites to performances and an annual report on the choir.

Sponsor a chorister

For £20 per month, plus gift aid, you could sponsor a chorister for an entire year.

Thanks to a generous donation from University of Exeter alumni Professor Jenny Harrow (Politics, 1968) and Stephen Harrow (History, 1967), the choir now proudly performs in University of Exeter green robes.

Support the Choir

With the exception of the salary of the Director of Chapel Music (which is funded separately), the activities of the choir are funded through:

  • successful grant applications
  • ticket sales and donations at concerts and performances
  • sales of CDs
  • private hire (e.g. weddings)
  • donations made directly to the choir

We do not have an endowment fund and receive no other funding (money donated directly to the Chapels is used for church activity and given to the Chapels' designated charities).

In addition to raising money to help with our running costs, we also occassionally host concerts with no entry fee to help ensure that our music is accessible to everyone, as well as using our music to help others raise money for charity. We would obviously like these activities to continue.

Due to the pandemic we have experienced the situation, common to many choirs, of significantly reduced opportunity to raise money from concerts or to take private bookings.

Our 24 choral scholars each receive an annual scholarship of £300, so we are looking to raise £7200 to fund the choral scholars for a year through our Choral Scholarship Fund.

Any donations we receive above this threshold will be used to further the work of the choir, as detailed below. You can also contact us directly if you would like to make a donation towards or sponsor a specific aspect of our work.

I've always loved singing in choirs at school. I wanted to push myself and see how technical I was, compared to other people from the University.

Knowing that Chapel Choir had an excellent reputation made me want to join. When I started in the choir my sight singing was awful, but I’ve slowly started to improve. I’ve learnt about the importance of listening to each other and made friends that I wouldn't have met had it not been for the choir.

I am very grateful for these opportunities which would not be possible without the support of funding.

Singing through lockdown

In 2020 the Chapel Choir kept singing throughout lockdown, and recorded Shine for the University's graduation ceremonies which all took place online.

during the last few years the choir have continued to excel in their work as ambassadors for the University

How your support makes a difference

The University of Exeter Chapel Choir helps enrich the student experience by providing an opportunity for students to pursue music in conjunction with their degree.

In a normal academic year the choir will sing two services a week and perform in front of thousands of people in the course of at least fifteen concerts and many graduation ceremonies.

and continuing in their ambassadorial work for the University.

The choir promote excellence in our reputation, our singing and above all our University.

These choral awards provide our students with the opportunity to:

  • sing as part of a professional ensemble
  • experience large scale performances with orchestras in incredible venues
  • learn from guest conductors and artists of significant repute
  • study a diverse repertoire spanning 600 years
  • receive singing lessons from the best teachers in the south west of England
  • receive other opportunities that may further their instrumental passions
  • tour without cost
  • represent the University

We believe that our choral scholarship is becoming one of the most prestigious in the country, offering our scholars a healthy balance between academic study and their choral commitments.

All of this is made possible thanks to the generosity of those who have supported the Choral Scholars Fund.

The Choral Scholars Fund makes possible one of the most exceptional parts of being a student.

Further funding will only lead to our reputation growing and putting Exeter on the map as having one of the best choral opportunities in the country.
