Orthodox

The Orthodox Church is an ancient global family of self-governing churches in communion with one another. It confesses itself to be the authentic continuation of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of the Nicene Creed founded by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Orthodoxy is life in Christ as it is experienced in the Eucharist and the whole mystical life of prayer of the Church.

Students' Guild Society

Exeter has an Orthodox Christian Society, which provides an environment of collegiality and fellowship for anyone interested in any aspect of the Orthodox Church. It hosts talks by invited speakers, community meals, pilgrimages, film screenings and Bible Studies. Find out more about the Society on Facebook.

In the Community

The Society works closely with The Orthodox Parish of the Holy Prophet Elias, which is not far from the University. Its rector is Hieromonk Porphyrios (Plant). He has decades of pastoral experience and is available by appointment. The community is Pan-Orthodox and multi-ethnic. It holds a full cycle of services (Wednesday Vespers, 6:30pm, Saturday Vespers, 6pm, Sunday Liturgy, 10:30am), predominantly in English but with some Greek, Slavonic and Romanian. More information is available at http://www.orthodoxdevon.org and on Facebook.
