Plum-fruited Yew
Native of Andes of South Chile, where it grows to a height of
80 feet. Introduced into this country in 1860 by Messrs. Veitch.
Leaves linear with glaucous strip on either side of the midrib
on abaxial surface. The seeds are fleshy like olives. Can be used
as a hedge-plant in milder parts of the country as a substitute
for yew. |
