Tremough Research Forum for the Humanities and the EnvironmentThe research forum was established at the beginning of 2008 as an arena for the development of interdisciplinary links among Tremough academics with interests in sustainability and the environment. We are particularly concerned to demonstrate what the humanities and social sciences (broadly conceived) can bring to understanding concerns with environmental change and the ways in which it has been experienced. We have set as an initial focus for work the theme of floods. A number of papers have been read and discussed by the forum from a range of disciplinary perspectives. In June 2008 we entertained our first external speaker Jeroen Warner (Wageningen), who spoke on: ‘Contesting ‘controlled flooding’: experiences from Turkey, Bangladesh and the Netherlands’. We are now developing plans for further talks and workshops. The forum is open to all academics on the Tremough Campus who may wish to participate. We welcome insights from all disciplinary perspectives. Those interested should contact either: Dr Tim Cooper (History) T.Cooper@ex.ac.uk or Dr Nick Vaughan-Williams (Politics) N.Vaughan-Williams@ex.ac.uk |
