Institute of Cornish Studies > ePDP Training
ePDP TrainingThis is important information about a resource available to you, and about steps you must take to prepare for your interview with your personal tutor in the week between semester 1 and semester 2 (or, for theology students, your 'signing out' interview at the end of term 2). On this page you can find out:
What the ePDP tool is, and why you should use itDo you take responsibility for your own learning? Or do you feel you’re just ‘muddling through’? Are you actively involved in volunteering, gaining work experience or improving your study? Or do you not know where to start? The University provides each of you with an online 'Personal Development Planning' tool, ePDP (www.intranet.ex.ac.uk/epdp), to help you monitor and make sense of the skills that you are developing, aid you in working out how to get the best from the remainder of your studies and extra-curricular activities, and assist you in preparing for the jobs market once you graduate. It is an online tool that enables you to record, categorise, and comment on the various kind of learning you've been involved in, both in and out of the classroom, and if you want to leave Exeter with a CV that shows off well just what you have gained from your time here, ePDP is an essential tool, and we recommend that each student uses it. You can find out much more about ePDP on the School Student Handbook. ePDP and personal tutor meetingsThe ePDP system enables you to produce a printout of all that you have written in it so far. When you meet with your personal tutor during the inter-semester break (or, for Theology students, at signing out) you must take a printout of your ePDP with you, to allow the tutor to discuss your personal development achievements and goals with you. Your Department will let you know more details about when these interviews are happening. Please do not use the facility that allows you to e-mail your tutor when you update your ePDP information; it will not be enabled this year in any event. Note for users of the old PDP systemIf you are a new undergraduate student starting your programme in 2007-08, or if you are a postgraduate taught or research student, you will only be able to use the new ePDP tool accessed via your Student Record pages. If you are an undergraduate who started their programme before 2007-08 and have used the previous system of self-appraisal and development plans located at www.exeter.ac.uk/pdp, you can continue to use this, if you'd prefer. You may, however, prefer to use the new ePDP resource. Please let your tutor know if you would prefer to carry on using the 'old' system so that s/he knows where to look in order to view your self-appraisals and plans. Combined Honours studentsWe would normally expect you to undertake one meeting with your personal tutor, whose name appears on your student portal, and who is usually from the department first named in your degree. Some students have in the past however, chosen to undertake the meeting with their tutor from their other School, for example SALL or SOGAER. If you elect to meet with your tutor from your other School, please let the HuSS School Office know so they can make a note. |
