Research newsThe Institute is this year working with the newly formed Cornish Research Network to support a series of seminars. New Books Two new books were published by Institute staff in October - Cornwall: a concise history, by Bernard Deacon, is a survey of Cornish history which traces the creative tensions produced by the dual influences of its past, English and non-English, and addresses its current paradox as nation, region and county all wrapped into one. Published by the University of Wales Press, this is available direct from the publishers at a special offer price of £14.41- contact B.W.Deacon@exeter.ac.uk for more details. Making Moonta: The invention of Australia's Little Cornwall, by Philip Payton, relates the story of Moonta and its special place in Cornish transnational identity. The book charts the migration and settlement of Moonta and its copper-mining hinterland after 1860 and the role of institutions such as the Methodist Church and trade unions in fostering the Cornishness at the centre of the Moonta myth. Making Moonta is published by University of Exeter Press and costs £14.99. Contact uep@exeter.ac.uk for an order form.
