School of Humanities & Social Sciences
We are a large interdisciplinary School carrying out research and teaching across a wide range of humanities and social science fields, aiming for excellence in each, and developing cross-cutting and innovative work between them. The School is now entering an exciting new phase. Having incorporated the Institute of Cornish Studies in 2002, the School is now playing a central part in the growth of humanities and social science provision at the Cornwall Campus near Falmouth. In 2007, 11 new academic staff took up appointment in History and Politics, which will add a further 300 or more students to the School by 2009, studying Single Honours History and a range of combined honours degrees between History, Politics, Cornish/Modern Celtic Studies, English, Geography and Law. Cornwall Campus staff have already been very active in winning new research grants in both traditional areas of History and Politics and less conventional fields such as knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary projects. Student Quotes:"The small class sizes mean that they know who you are, which is really nice, especially in the first few weeks when you're trying to find your feet. I couldn't imagine studying anywhere else, and living with a sea view from my bedroom window is just the icing on the cake." Katherine Kenward First Year, Single Honours History
"The Cornwall Campus at Exeter University is a vibrant diverse place and a great environment. The Politics department is filled with passionate, active academics who are genuinely enthusiastic to engage with students on a personal level as well as during class." Jasemin Ackay First Year, Combined Honours Politics and Geography
"Studying in Cornwall is a wholly different experience to anywhere else in the UK. It provides a first class education with the chilled-out atmosphere of the South West." Grant Whitmore First Year, Combined Honours History and Politics |
