Niamh Lamond appointed as new CEO for the Tremough Campus Services Group
The University of Exeter (UoE) and University College Falmouth (UCF) have appointed Niamh Lamond as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Tremough Campus Services Group (TCSG).
TCSG is the company that operates the flagship 100 acre Cornwall Campus (also known as the Tremough Campus) in Penryn on behalf of UCF and UoE, who own and jointly manage the site in an arrangement that is unique in the UK.
Following seven years of successful development and expansion at the campus, UoE and UCF agreed to bring the development and operational arm of its joint venture under the control of a CEO in 2010.
The CEO’s portfolio includes student welfare support and accommodation, catering and retail, estates and facilities, building development, library and IT services.
The appointment of Niamh Lamond to this new role marks an important next step in the development of the campus as a major centre for innovation and learning.
Niamh Lamond has an honours degree in Engineering from University College Dublin and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in industry before moving to Cornwall. Her former role as Director of Finance & Resources at UCF has been closely associated with the joint venture from its early days of inception through its last seven years of growth.
“I am very excited to be given this opportunity to lead the joint venture between UoE and UCF,” says Niamh Lamond of her appointment. “These two great institutions are transforming the Higher Education and research landscape in Cornwall and it will be a privilege, as the CEO of the joint venture, to support them in growing even stronger in future years as the sector becomes more competitive and the expectations of students rise.”
“With her unique background and broad experience of the Higher Education sector, Niamh is strongly equipped for the CEO role,” explains University of Exeter Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Overton, to whom the new CEO reports in his capacity as Chair of the Tremough Campus Services Group Board. “Students have increasingly high expectations of their university experience and Niamh will have a vital role to play in helping us to raise our standards of service provision even higher than at present. Niamh will also play a vital role in the future development of the Tremough Campus and its positive impact on Cornwall’s economy.”
“The creation of this new post speaks volumes about the success of this innovative joint venture; it will allow the two partners to expand and continue to build Tremough as a world class learning and research environment,” adds UCF’s Rector & CEO, Professor Anne Carlisle.
The University of Exeter and University College Falmouth are founding partners in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique collaboration between six universities and colleges to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
