The Cornwall Campus

Cornwall Campus disruption on Thursday 5 January

South West Water have informed us that they intend to make permanent the temporary repair to the mains water supply pipe on the boundary of the Tremough Campus, between University College Falmouth’s (UCF) Performance Centre and the Kernick Industrial Estate, on Thursday 5 January 2012.

As a result, there will be a general loss of water across the Tremough Campus on that date between 10am and 6pm.

This will have a particular impact on our construction projects, the Performance Centre and the Daphne du Maurier building.

Whilst we have tanks on campus to maintain a short-term supply of water to our student residences and buildings, and to ensure that the effect on water critical research is minimised, Line Managers are asked to encourage their staff to work from home on Thursday 5 January (where appropriate), in order to minimise water usage, with the exception of the following operational personnel:

•         Tremough Reception staff
•         Security and porters
•         Building Services
•         Estates & Development Management Team
•         Residences staff
•         Essential IT staff
•         Essential Student Welfare staff

UCF staff who are affected are advised to speak with their Line Managers to discuss possible alternative work space arrangements at the Woodlane Campus.

Any student returning to campus prior to the official start of term to continue their own studies should arrive at the campus as normal, we will be making arrangements to accommodate them.

We have asked South West Water to provide two water bowsers to ensure that we have adequate back-up water supplies. In addition, we have requested a supply of bottled water for those who need it.

A limited food offer will be available from Koofi on the 5th January from 8am – 2pm.

We would like to apologise to University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter for this disruption, and for the short notice in communicating it.  This is because we were not made aware of South West Water’s intentions until yesterday.
