Information requests

Anyone is entitled to request specific categories of information from the University as set out below.

The GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 allow you to request access to any data about you.

In order to make a Subject Access Request please complete Data Subject Request Form and send a copy to dataprotection@exeter.ac.uk

Due to the varied nature of the way information and data are stored we ask that you are as specific as possible to ensure that we can process your request as efficiently as possible.

The GDPR and Data Protection Act afford individuals additional rights beyond access to data as above, these include:

  • Right to prevent processing likely to cause damage or distress
  • Right to prevent processing for purposes of direct marketing
  • Rights in relation to automated decision-taking
  • Right to compensation
  • Rectification, blocking, erasure, destruction
  • Requests for assessment

If you wish to enact any of these please contact the Information Governance Team at dataprotection@exeter.ac.uk.

The Freedom of Information Act allows anybody to request information recorded by the University. These requests must be made in writing and should be directed to the Information Governance Team.

All forms of written communication are acceptable under the legislation however we ask that you send your request to dataprotection@exeter.ac.uk to avoid any delays.

You do not need to put in a Subject Access Request to access transcripts and certificates. These can be requested from Student Administration using these processes:

The Information Governance Office have produced guidance on the various information request routes. These materials are available to staff on the SharePoint site here.
