Goods in transit

If you are sending equipment off campus by post or courier, the standard insurance provided is unlikely to cover the cost of replacing the item. The University has arranged insurance known as Goods-in-Transit cover.

The insurance provides cover for goods and equipment whilst in transit in own vehicle, sent  by post or via a courier and is a low cost alternative to the couriers own insurance. The policy can cover single items or loads up to £100,000 in any one conveyance.

Worldwide cover is available although certain high risk countries may be excluded as follows.

Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Crimea, Democratic Republic of Congo, East Timor, Eritrea, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Liberia, Myanmar, Moldova, Nigeria, North Korea, Russia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Republic of Yemen, Zimbabwe, and any country where local legislation precludes insurance being effected outside of that country.

The policy excess is £250.

The cost of insurance is free to you, but the transit must be declared to us prior to the parcel/equipment being sent. To declare the transit please complete the Goods In Transit Application Form  and return to us at insurance@exeter.ac.uk.
