Student Communications

Our team is responsible for connecting the University with its students – to reflect the richness and energy of university life and student achievements, deliver key messages and, crucially, to act as another channel for feedback. On the thankfully rare occasions when there is a need to send urgent messages out, we assist our colleagues in responding quickly and reaching those we need to.

Channels of communication include dedicated social media and a web section, plus a monthly University Update distributed to all students. We work closely with the FXU and Students’ Guild and staff across the University to ensure we provide our students with the best service possible. We also help with content for the student recruitment team, our alumni and others.

We run a group for University staff who communicate regularly with students, to ensure best practice.

The Student Communications team is headed up by Jo Cole – Student Communications Manager

Who we are

Student Communications Manager

My career began in journalism as a reporter and newsreader working for the BBC, ITV and regional newspapers. I was also the first Communications Manager for Eton College – responsible for seeing the famous school through a momentous year which included a change of Head Master and the opening of two large-scale building projects.

During my career at the University I have headed up communications for the alumni & fundraising department, as well as some of the largest scale capital projects – including The Forum.

I recently achieved a Professional Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

When not at work I’m blessed to be mum to a young daughter and we take karate classes together. I’ve also just completed my first children’s book, Ugly Mum.

Student Communications Officer

I’ve just started my career after graduating in Geography from the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus in 2015.

Prior to taking up the role as Student Communications Officer in September 2017, I was elected as the Exeter President of Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union – representing University of Exeter students at our Cornwall Campuses.

In my role now I’m still based at the Cornwall Campus with specific interest in communications for Cornwall students but have a remit for all our campuses across Devon and Cornwall.

Outside of work I spend as much time as possible outside – surfing, swimming, hiking, running and rock climbing.
