Faculty Professional Services Leadership
The Directors of Faculty Operations provide strategic leadership for all professional services within the faculty to ensure it meets its strategic objectives and that the embedded and aligned professional services support helps to deliver academic and student success.

In the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy (ESE) The Executive Officers provide strategic development and implementation support to the PVC and DFO, managing projects relating to Faculty business, across cross-faculty areas such as education, research, global, technical services, and governance. The Executive Officers lead the Faculty Ops teams and oversee the management of faculty processes.

In ESE, the Faculty PVC, DFO and DPVCs are supported by a team of three Senior Executive Assistants. Their role is to support all aspects of the senior leader’s role including diary management, meeting support, academic recruitment and promotions and all other faculty administrative processes that underpin the executive support team. The SEA line manages the Executive Assistants supporting the APVCs.

The Faculty has three APVCs in Education, Research and Impact and Global Engagement. The APVCs are supported by an Executive Assistant. The EA provides diary management, meeting support and event management, and works with the wider team to manage the operational processes of the faculty.

In the Business School, The School Manager provides strategic and operational management as part of the School Leadership Team, working directly with the DPVC and Dean and DDFO, and leads teams for department and accreditation support.

The DPVC and Dean of the Business School and the DDFO are supported by the Senior Executive Assistant and an Executive Assistant. The four Business School Associate Deans are supported by a team of two Executive Assistants, providing diary management and meeting support, as well as operational support with T1, away day planning and other administrative processes.

In Departments, the Senior Administrator provides cross-departmental support for operational processes such as honorary appointments, event management, website updates, induction and recruitment and line manages the department Executive Assistants, who each support a Head of Department.

Each Department has the operational support of a Department Manager, who leads on department specific activity across a broad range of responsibilities including department governance, contribution to planning, process and risk management.

Other Faculty Ops support is provided to a number of research groups who generally self-fund these via grants/other income.

In the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS), the Executive Officer provides strategic development and implementation support to the PVC and DFO, managing projects relating to Faculty business, across cross-faculty areas such as governance. The Executive Officer also manages the business of the Faculty Executive Board and line manages the Executive Support Team.

The Executive Support Team (led by the Senior Executive Assistant) supports the Faculty PVC and DPVCs, DFO and DDFO, APVCs, Faculty DPGR and Associate Deans. Each member of the team supports one or more of these senior leaders in all aspects of their role, including diary management, meeting support and event management, co-ordinating travel, procurement/purchasing and other financial matters. They also provide operational support for a number of faculty-level administrative processes which are handled through the Executive team, such as probations, promotions, and honorary appointments.

Each Department has the operational support of a Department Manager, who leads on department-specific activity across a broad range of responsibilities including department governance, communications, planning, and risk management. The Department Managers also manage the Department Administrators and the Executive Assistants who support the Heads of Department.

In Departments, the Department Administrators provide cross-departmental and discipline support for operational processes such as diary management, management of grant budgets, honorary appointments, Above & Beyond awards, event and visit management, travel booking, website updates, induction and recruitment.

Further Faculty Operations support is provided to a number of research groups who generally self-fund these via grants/other income.

In the Faculty of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (HASS), the Executive Officer provides strategic development and implementation support to faculty leadership, managing projects relating to faculty business, across cross-faculty areas such as education, research, global, technical services, and governance. The Executive Officer also leads the HASS Faculty Operations Team and oversees the management of faculty processes.

The HASS faculty PVC, DPVCS, APVCs, DFO and DDFO are supported by a team of five colleagues within the HASS Faculty Operations Team. Their role is to provide administrative support to these senior leaders and their respective portfolios, including for example, diary management and meeting support. These five colleagues are line managed by two senior administrative colleagues, who provide support for faculty business and processes.

The HASS Departments are supported by a team of ten colleagues within the HASS Faculty Operations Team and their role is to provide administrative support to the respective Head of Department and academic colleagues within the department, including for example, meeting and events support. These ten colleagues are line managed by two senior administrative colleagues, who provide cross-departmental support for departmental business and operational processes.

Each Department has the support of a Department Manager, who leads on department specific activity across a broad range of responsibilities including departmental governance and planning.

There are also two colleagues within the HASS Faculty Operations Team that provide administrative support to research groups (i.e. EGENIS and CRPR).
