MRI scanner

The Siemens Magnetom Prisma 3T MRI scanner offers excellent neuroimaging capabilities allowing a wide range of functional and structural brain measures to be determined. In addition, it provides the opportunity to undertake specialised studies, utilising such techniques as diffusion spectrum imaging, arterial spin labelling and carbon spectroscopy. The MRI scanner also provides additional capacity for NHS patients to be clinically scanned.

About MRI scanning

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive tool that employs strong magnetic fields to provide pictures of brain structure, function and metabolism. At the Centre, we have expertise on the acquisition of, and provide services on the analysis of, structural and functional sequences including Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL), Neuromelanin-sensitive MRI, Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging (SWI), Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM), Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) and functional MRI (fMRI).

We often common MRI sequences, including structural, functional and diffusion MRI sequences, as well as more novel sequences. We are happy to support additional sequences depending on need.
