Engineering - Mechanical HNC
Duration: Completion of two years part time (1 day per week) to gain HNC. Depending on successful completion of HNC, apprentices can progress to study for an additional year to gain the HND.
Training Provider: Exeter College, Technology Centre.
Course Details: Engineering - Mechanical HNC.
Technical Services, at the University of Exeter, along with Exeter College have developed a three-year Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme. The scheme focuses on the professional skills required to support and help deliver teaching and research in the Higher Education sector.
On enrolling in either the Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic or Manufacturing Engineering apprenticeships you will be based in the state-of-the-art Technology Centre, you will study part-time (one day per week) in which you will achieve a HNC qualification in two-years.
The Technology Centre at Monkerton combines the training and teaching of engineering students with access to state-of-the-art equipment within world class facilities. The CAD/CAM Suite includes 25 computers running the latest versions of AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works, EdgeCAM and SIEMENS 828d/840d control. The software will allow engineering students to experience industry-standard software and CNC machining equipment that give an understanding of CAD for manufacture.
You will study a number of core modules alongside your specialist modules. Modules will develop your understanding of a wide range of engineering techniques and provide you with the analytical tools and concepts necessary to understand the technical and managerial issues you may face in an engineering career.
Four days each week during term time (working a 5 day week during Exeter College holidays) you will apply theories and techniques learnt at Exeter College to real world projects, tasks and jobs in the workshops at the University of Exeter. You will be expected to hone and develop the skills you have acquired and directly support world leading teaching and bespoke research projects.
On successful completion of your HNC, you will progress to an HND with a third year of study.
At the University of Exeter you’ll be mentored by, work alongside, and learn from qualified technical staff, developing your knowledge and skills. You will also have the opportunity to conduct further personal and professional development through our Staff Learning and Development team.
Upon successful completion of your HNC/D programme, you will be in a good position to apply for a full time Technical Services role within the University.
