Presenting your research:

• Presentation skills for researchers- Giving presentations is a key process in the dissemination of research, and for many will be required throughout their future careers. Learning how to present research effectively is a vitally important skill to develop during your research training. 

• Public speaking and presentation skills- This workshop covers the physical and oral components of delivering effective and impactful presentations. It offers alternative ways of approaching public speaking and developing / practising oral communication skills so that speakers can step up to the podium with more confidence and ease, and less performance anxiety. 

• Designing research posters- Designing a large format poster can present both technical and communication challenges. In this workshop we will consider how best to overcome both these challenges and produce posters that are both attractive, informative and get your research noticed.

• Data Visualisation: How to Effectively Communicate with your Data- The aim of this session is to share and discuss the key principles of effective data visualisation and to inspire you to start to tell much better stories with your data.

• Writing conference abstracts- Conferences are the cornerstone of research dissemination – whether you are presenting a talk, a research poster, or contributing to a panel. This webinar will introduce you to the process of writing conference abstracts, including key tips and tricks to ensure that your abstract has the highest chance of being accepted, and encouraging delegates to attend your talk, poster or panel.

• Creating impactful public engagement content- This workshop will share clear, practical steps for creating effective, impactful public engagement content, whether it’s for oral presentations or written platforms. We will examine key principles for creating content that will be relevant and relatable to audiences, and engage them at the highest levels.

Publishing in journal articles:

• Publishing in open access- This virtual session will explain what it means to publish in open access, the types of publishers, and open access licensing options. Funds available to publish open access and publishers’ agreements through which authors can publish without paying any publishing fees will be presented.

Research Showcase celebrates the work of our vibrant postgraduate researchers. The Showcase provides the opportunity to promote the up-and-coming talent of Exeter's research base and gave both postgraduate researchers the opportunity to develop their presentation, communication, and impact skills.
