University of Exeter Professor joins board of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership

The University of Exeter’s Professor Kevin J Gaston is taking up an invitation to join the board of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership (CIOSLNP), which launches today.

Established following the publication of the government’s Natural Environment White Paper, The Natural Choice: Securing the value of Nature in June 2011, the CIOSLNP is tasked with the role of facilitating joined-up action for the environment at a local, yet strategic level.
Its work will be guided by the overarching principle that the culture, communities and environment of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are vital and unique.  In pursuing this, it will develop a number of key priorities addressing a wide range of issues around the challenges and opportunities that the environment provides and how these will change in the future.
To ensure that it will be considering the environment in its broadest sense, the CIOSLNP is drawing upon expertise and knowledge from a wide range of sectors.

Speaking of his invitation to join the board, Professor Kevin Gaston, Director of the Environment and Sustainability Institute said: “It is a great pleasure to be part of the CIOSLNP, and particularly to be able to contribute to an evidence-based approach to action that will benefit the extraordinary natural resources of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and their communities.”
