ESI Creative Exchange event

Participants at a Creative Exchange Melting Pot

Research and creative industries workshop for creative practitioners

Creative practitioners are invited to the University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) on Monday 7 April to learn more about how they can work with universities and academic researchers to support and develop their creative practice.

Creative practice across the visual arts, crafts, performance and design fields invariably involves research. But as a creative practitioner do you know how to approach or work with researchers and academics from non-arts based specialisms?

This workshop, which runs from 12pm to 5pm, will introduce participates to relevant activities and opportunities within the ESI and the University of Exeter, and allow them to meet academic researchers and creative practitioners who work within academic contexts. The workshop will explain how to engage with academics and researchers, and look at a range of models for collaborative working. It will also provide information and guidance on what funding routes are available to facilitate collaborative research activities.

The day is aimed at creative practitioners across visual arts, craft, performance and design as well as creative industry businesses and those working or interested in working at the interface of science and creativity, particularly those with a specific focus on the environment.

The workshop will be jointly run with Creative Skills; the cost for the day is £20, if you would like to attend please email Creative Skills to register.

After this event the ESI will be hosting its regular Creative Exchange Melting Pot, which aims to bring together creative practitioners and research academics who share an interest in issues of environment and sustainability.

The Melting Pot, which runs from 5pm to 7pm at the ESI, is an informal and fun opportunity for artists and creative practitioners to meet ESI researchers and explore ideas for collaboration.

Entry is free and at this session attendees will hear an update from current Creative Exchange Affiliate Oliver Raymond-Barker and forthcoming affiliates RAME Peninsula Beach Care.

The Creative Exchange Programme is a joint initiative between the ESI and Falmouth University’s Research in Art, Nature and the Environment (RANE) research group.

The ESI is working with businesses and enterprises across all sectors of the economy in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and beyond to translate research and expertise into innovative business practices, products and services in order to respond to the challenges of environmental change. It has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund Convergence Programme (£22.9M) and the South West Regional Development Agency (£6.6M), with significant support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
