Profile

My research focuses on metal-microbes interactions. I am currently involved in a project that aims at applying extremophiles for recovering metals and other material from e-waste and other secondary sources. I am also interested in the microbial ecology of acidic and metal-rich environments and polluted sites.

I am also a member of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

Research interests

  • Fe/S oxidizing microbes and their potential application for finding sustainable solution to environmental problems
  • Bioleaching and biohydrometallurgy
  • Metal contaminants in sediment and soils, particularly the effects on microbial populations and bioremediation
