Second European Conference on the Biology of Hydrogen Sulfide
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Organising Committee, we cordially invite you to attend the Second European Conference on the Biology of Hydrogen Sulfide, taking place from Sunday 8th to Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Exeter, England. The aim of the conference is to bring together European scientists, with international participation, to a focused meeting on the rapidly expanding and exciting field of H2S biology and medicine.
Over the last decade H2S has emerged as a physiologically important mediator a diverse range of mammalian systems such as regulating vascular tone, inflammation, cognitive function, mitochondrial energetic, and regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and senescence and cell death. In plants H2S modulates stomatal opening and stimulates (or inhibits) plant growth whereas in bacteria, H2S production was recently found to be crucial for conferring antibiotic resistance. The disparate effects of this remarkable gas have also highlighted the potential therapeutic and agricultural value of manipulating H2S production either through the use of novel H2S donor compounds or H2S synthesis inhibitors.
We hope the conference will build on the momentum from the hugely successful H2S conferences last year in Slovakia (http://www.h2s.sk) and the USA (http://www.strategicresults.com/H2S2012) and the recently created European Network on Gasotransmitters (http://gasotransmitters.eu) and that our conference will continue to foster close international collaboration and lively and friendly debate.
We look forward to welcoming you all to Exeter in September.
Very best wishes,
Local Organising Committee for H2S-Exeter
