The original goal was achieved in February 2018

Campaign aims to reach 150% of target

In February the University of Exeter celebrated a huge milestone in the Making the Exceptional Happen Campaign, when the number of alumni volunteering hours given since the Campaign began passed 60,000.

This goal was originally set for 2020, but thanks to the dedication and commitment of the alumni community, it was reached a staggering two and half years ahead of schedule.

Now, thanks to the continued support of Exeter alumni the Campaign is striving for an even greater goal – that of 90,000 hours by 2020.

The new aim was announced by University of Exeter Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Steve Smith, at the Alumni Gala Dinner on 10 May. During his speech he also paid tribute to the hard work and passion shown by alumni volunteers at Exeter and thanked everyone for their contribution.

Emma McFadyen, Head of Alumni Relations and Volunteering, said: “We are so proud of all of our volunteers and what they have achieved. Reaching 60,000 hours equates to one of our alumni community volunteering to support the University every hour of every day since the Campaign began in 2012 – an amazing statistic.

“The amount of extra support that will be provided to students and fellow alumni through this additional 30,000 hours will be exceptional. It will provide mentoring, careers talks, expert advice, and support alumni groups around the world. I am looking forward to working with our supporters to achieve this new goal.”

Alumni volunteers help Exeter to enhance the student experience and improve career prospects, bring their industry expertise and insights to the curriculum, support the alumni community, and provide valuable strategic advice and guidance to University staff.

This year, to mark the original goal being reached, the Alumni Volunteer Awards were launched, recognising and celebrating individuals who have gone the extra mile in their support of students and alumni. The winners of the awards were recently announced.
