I'm delighted to have supported the development of successive generations of Exeter students through sport.
Nicholas Bull, (Chemistry 1973) has supported sport at Exeter for many years, including funding the Nicholas Bull Boathouse for the rowing team.
Nurturing world-class sport
World-class facilities, high levels of participation, support for elite student athletes… sport plays an important role at Exeter.
Recently named as The Times and The Sunday Times Sports University of the Year 2015/16 in recognition of excellence in sports performance, education and research, Exeter’s sporting reputation is going from strength to strength.
Exeter finished the 2015/16 season 5th of 151 institutions in the British Universities and Colleges Sport table. The University also finished the year as the top ranked institution in Men’s Hockey, Men’s Rugby and Women’s Tennis and both the Men’s Rugby and Women’s Indoor Cricket teams won their BUCS championships.
Our 50 sports clubs’ combined membership is over 8,000 and more than 3,000 students compete in friendly competition through our intramural sports programme. Our students also have a positive impact in the local community through sport, with our Sports Volunteering Scheme providing student coaches to local schools in Devon and Cornwall.
The bonds formed through taking part in sport at Exeter often last well beyond graduation: many of our alumni count former team-mates amongst their closest friends. Four alumni competed at the 2012 Olympic Games, five at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and at a recent ISAF World Cup Sailing event in Miami, four of Great Britain’s 11 medals were won by Exeter alumni. Eight former scholarship recipients competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics.
You can help with improvements to facilities like Topsham Sports ground, help individual sporting clubs like the Rowing Club or the Rugby Club to upgrade their equipment, or help the best student athletes to reach their full potential through elite sports scholarships.

Will you help sport at Exeter go from strength to strength?
A gift of £2,000 could fund a Women in Sport Scholarship. Women are underrepresented in Exercise and Sports Sciences at Exeter and these scholarships will help us to redress this imbalance.
A gift of £9,000 could fund a three year Sports Scholarship that will attract and support a talented student athlete during their time at Exeter and enable them to fulfil their academic and sporting potential.
A gift of £25,000 could be used to increase staff resource for community outreach activity, enhancing sporting opportunities for local schoolchildren and providing real-world coaching and teaching experience for our students.
A gift of £50,000 could fund advanced equipment such as a weight-supported treadmill to allow our researchers to work with individuals with Parkinson’s disease, those recovering from a stroke, and children with cerebral palsy.
Gifts of £12,000 - £100,000 could support a PhD studentship and help our world-leading research teams deliver impact in some of the biggest global health challenges. Gifts to PhD studentships can be paid over four years and matched 2:1 through our Diamond Jubilee Doctoral Scholarship Match Fund.
Gifts of £100,000 - £300,000 could enable us to develop a Human Performance Laboratory in our Streatham Sports Park, bringing our research to our student athletes and giving our students opportunities to develop sport and health sciences skills in a real-world setting.
Gifts of £200,000 - £1million towards developments at our Topsham Sports Ground site would have a profound impact on sporting opportunities for a huge numbers of students, schoolchildren and community members.
Gifts of £400,000 - £1.25million could allow us to develop a suite of translational exercise science laboratories to support our world-class research and teaching into age and lifestyle related clinical conditions as well as inherited conditions such as cystic fibrosis and congenital heart disease.
We are committed to recognising your support. From naming opportunities for buildings and rooms or academic posts and scholarships, to events publically thanking our supporters, we would be delighted to discuss options with you.
