Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills

The Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and is ideal for practicing team leaders, helping them become more effective and confident in their role. It also supports new or aspiring team leaders - helping them to transition from working in a team to leading a team.

What is the ILM?

The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) is widely recognised by employers and education throughout the UK. The ILM offers a wide range of qualifications covering all aspects of leadership and management, along with specialist programmes in coaching and mentoring, HR and enterprise. Last year 90,000 people registered for an ILM qualification, gaining the crucial skills and knowledge to improve their performance at work.

Studying members get access to all the benefits of full members for the length of their studies or a minimum of six months. For further information: www.i-l-m.com/Why-ILM/ILM-membership/Types-of-membership/Studying-membership

What is involved and how do I apply?

Students applying for the qualification must have already completed the Exeter Leaders Award (ELA).

The ILM qualification is delivered as part of the Exeter Leaders Award scheme. The knowledge and learning required for the ILM assessments has been embedded within the compulsory workshops and activities for the Exeter Leaders Award. Participants will therefore need to have completed the Exeter Leaders Award before being able to register for the ILM.

Students who have submitted and had approved Accredited Prior Learning (APL) sessions as an alternative to the ELA compulsory sessions will not be eligible to undertake the qualification i.e. if you are undertaking the ILM qualification as part of your Leaders Award you must attend ALL Leaders Award skills sessions to complete the qualification, and may not submit an alternative learning activity in place of any session.

Participating in the Exeter Leaders Award alone will not guarantee success and students will be required to study for and pass the ILM assessments to achieve the qualification.

Students will be expected to dedicate approximately 20-30hrs of learning time during the year, including using online study resources provided through the ILM Learning Zone.

Students will be required to submit and pass two assessments to achieve the qualification. These are based on a question and short answer format of 5-8 questions consisting of 250-500 words per question. All questions must achieve the pass mark to pass the assessment as a whole. These will be marked by an external ILM Assessor and feedback will be provided. Successful outcomes are determined by the ILM Assessors against a precisely defined set of assessment criteria, guided by the indicative content. The assessment criteria and marking scheme are provided on my Career Zone once you have registered for the ILM.

The assessment submissions will be made via My Career Zone and can be submitted individually within three years of the date of ILM membership registration. Students will be able resubmit if they fail the assessments but a fee will be applicable.
