'The funding is going to help me a lot through buying books and the resources that I need to do well such as a good laptop. It will also help me in everyday life supporting my accommodation costs and allowing me to join societies, [… and] allowing me to get work experience or pay for trips to visit law firms or courts that I would not be able to afford without the support. Beyond Exeter the award will continue to help me with applications for training contracts and future job prospects as I will be more attractive to employers by having been able to afford to take full advantage of all the opportunities that are open to me during my time at Exeter.'

The Brian Waghorn and Julia Davies Scholarships

Alumnus Mark Waghorn (Law, 1988), a Partner at Simmons & Simmons LLP in London, has established these two awards named after his parents. I want to help other young people have the same opportunity that I did."

Toby completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first year undergraduate studying BSc Environmental Science.

'This award came as a complete surprise and I am immensely grateful to receive it. This funding support will help reduce the monetary restrictions associated with university life for me, allowing me to join in with the societies I enjoy and to purchase textbooks and further reading books to further enrich my knowledge of the subject.
