Study Medieval art, culture, drama, history, languages, politics ...

... in any combination, or just one or two themes.

A pathway in Medieval Studies opens up many study possibilities by combining modules from several departments.

Have a flexible approach by taking modules looking at different aspects of the Medieval period.

Or combine related modules to form one or more themes. Themes you could create for yourself include:

  • Medieval history and religion - combine modules from the Archaeology, History and Theology Departments.
  • Medieval literature and drama - study literary works and plays form England and Europe by following modules from the English and, if you have suitable languages, from the Modern Languages departments and put them in context by looking at the history of the period.
  • Medieval culture - combine modules on archaeology, history, art, theology, philosophy, politics.

Add languages

Your programme could also be enriched by a language, ancient or modern (French, Italian, Latin, Greek, Russian, Spanish). Most of these can be studied from beginners so it doesn't matter what level you are at the moment.

Use your imagination to create a programme of study that you want to follow.

Degree titles

The degree you create could be called BA Medieval Studies or could reflect a theme you have given to your programme, e.g. BA Medieval History or BA Medieval Languages and Culture.
