Second year programme - Flexible Combined Honours

Medical SciencesTwo Medical Sciences modules are taken in your second year:

  • Disease, Diagnostics and Therapeutics - CSC2012 (30 credits)
  • Principles of Medical Research - CSC2014 (30 credits)

to form 60 credits in this half of the overall Flexible Combined Honours degree programme.

Up to 90 credits of Medical Sciences modules can be taken each year within Flexible Combined Honours. 'Extra' optional modules can be chosen from those available that year, e.g.:

  • Translational Medical Research Evaluation - CSC2013 (15 credits)
  • Introduction to Pharmacology - CSC2005 (15 credits)
  • Foundations in Neuroscience - CSC2006 (15 credits)
  • Anatomical Sciences - CSC2009 (15 credits)

All modules are subject to availability and timetabling limitations. All modules are subject to change.

It may be possible for the degree title to reflect subject specialisms, e.g. Medical Sciences (Neuroscience), Medical Sciences (Pharmacology) or Medical Sciences (Genomics), if sufficient and appropriate modules are taken. Requests for specialisms will be on a case-by-case basis, with the student consulting with the Medical Sciences FCH subject co-ordinator. Approval for any named specialisms is needed from the Medical Sciences FCH co-ordinator.

Note, that FCH Medical Sciences students cannot take the four-year programme which includes the 120 credit CSC3003 Professional Training year. There is always the alternative four-year FCH degrees with work abroad, work in the UK or study abroad.

Note, that because nearly all level 2 modules have level 1 prerequisites, students cannot enter this particular FCH stream at level 2, unless they are transferring from a Medical Sciences degree into FCH.
