Exeter Student studying outsideThe main point of the Flexible Combined Honours degree programme is to encourage you to combine subjects that interest you.

You can consider subject combinations that do not otherwise exist as degree programmes at the university — full A-Z list of existing degrees.

The nature of the combination can be:

  • two subjects in equal proportion
  • two subjects as a 'major' and 'minor'
  • three subjects in a variety of possible proportions
  • a themed subject taking modules from a variety of areas, e.g.:
    • Military History – modules from: Ancient History, Anthropology, Arab and Islamic Studies, Archaeology, History, International Relations, Sociology
    • Mediterranean Studies – modules from: Arabic, Classics, History, Italian, Politics, Spanish

First year students generally take two subjects in equal proportion, or two with a language if spending a year abroad, and then develop a more flexible approach for the following years — first year subjects available.

Academic guidance on the appropriate combination of subjects is given by the Director of the programme and by the individual subject co-ordinators.

But please note, timetable issues and module availability may mean that not all desired combinations are possible.
