UCAS offerTransferring to FCH after receiving an Exeter offer through UCAS

If you want to transfer to FCH after Exeter has made you an offer, contact the University's Admissions Office, telling them which FCH subject combination you would like. Admissions will assess your request and respond accordingly. Be aware that a transfer may not be possible at this stage - e.g. all FCH places may already be full.

Students relaxing on campusTransferring to FCH for your first year as an Exeter student

If you want to transfer to FCH at any point during your first year, even as early as during Freshers' Week, you will need to request this through the University's Admissions Office. They will check, for example, the appropriateness of your academic qualifications and their grades for your newly chosen subject(s) etc.

Be aware that a transfer may not be possible, for a variety of reasons.

FCH transfers usually need to have been completed by very near the beginning of the academic year, otherwise too much teaching will have been missed in a new subject area; and module changes cannot take place after the second week of either the first or second term.

Student seminarTransferring to FCH for your second year as an Exeter student

As your interests develop during your first year you may find that your existing degree programme does not allow you to follow the particular things you wish to pursue. FCH may provide a way of following your own particular interests and ambitions.

Most students apply to transfer into FCH during their first year, to commence FCH from their second year. Contact us at any point during your first year to talk through possibilities.

Transfer into FCH for your second year is usually straightforward and merely requires you to pass your first year at Exeter. It may even be possible to have failed first-year compulsory, core modules condoned.

Transfers into second-year FCH usually need to have been completed by very near the beginning of the second academic year, otherwise too much teaching will have been missed in a new subject area (and module changes cannot take place after the second week of either the first or second term), but this does allow transfer requests to be considered in the very early part of the the second-year autumn term for an immediate transfer.

Transfer requests cannot be processed during the summer vacation unless you are on campus to be able to see appropriate staff and gain their signatures on the FCH transfer form. Transfers cannot be done by email.

Transferring to FCH for your final year as an Exeter student

It is sometimes possible to transfer to FCH for your final year. They are not that common and are largely for 'bureaucratic' reasons. For example, they often relate to achieving particular-named degrees, e.g. to reflect a group of at least 60 credits of same-subject option modules taken in your second and final years which your current degree cannot name.

It is not usually possible to start a new subject in your final year, so, just to warn you, transfers to FCH for such reasons are normally declined.

Contact us as soon as possible during your final year if you would like to transfer.

Durham universityTransferring to FCH - from students at other universities

We usually only consider transfers to FCH from students currently at another university, either in the UK or outside, if there are extenuating circumstances resulting in study only being possible in the Exeter area.

Contact Exeter's central Admissions Office if you wish to make such an enquiry.
