Official opening of the Forum - 2 May 2012

An introduction by the Vice-Chancellor

I am both delighted and honoured that the University of Exeter has the privilege of welcoming Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to the Streatham Campus.

This special celebration will give staff, students and guests from across Devon and Cornwall the opportunity to commemorate two significant, historic occasions.

It goes without saying that we are immensely proud to be able to welcome The Queen in this, her Diamond Jubilee Year. To be able to play a part in the magnificent nationwide celebrations to mark such a momentous achievement is something which we can all, quite rightly, be proud of.

I truly believe that the excitement, passion and warmth that I have no doubt will be demonstrated by everyone involved will be a fitting tribute to the work, commitment and dedication The Queen and His Royal Highness have demonstrated over 60 years.

But it also, of course, marks a historic occasion not just for the Streatham Campus but for the University of Exeter as a whole, with the flagship Forum being officially opened.

This remarkable new development will provide so many new facilities and opportunities for everyone associated with the University of Exeter, for many years to come.

2012 has already proved to be a landmark year for us all; from being invited to join the Russell Group and strengthening our rankings and reputation both home and abroad to furthering our commitment of investment significantly.

This occasion is an opportunity for us all to be rightly proud of everything we have achieved, together, and I look forward to you joining me for what promises to be a truly special day.
