Assistant Director (Marchmont Observatory)


Ben Neild is the Assistant Director of the Marchmont Observatory. He is responsible for initiating and overseeing projects that deliver inclusive growth in South West England. Examples of projects include the £3 million South West Opportunities for Older People, the £6.4 million Big Data and Environmental Futures Impact Lab and £2 million Exeter Science Park Research and Innovation Transfer project (ESPRIT).  

Ben manages delivery of Marchmont’s data and information services; undertakes economic and labour market research; and writes strategy documents for the University and external organisations, such as Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and Local Authorities.


Ben has 25 years experience working on skills, employment and economic development issues. Before joining Marchmont he held posts as Funding Manager for the Central London Training and Enterprise Council and European Regional Manager for London’s Training and Enterprise Councils, roles that involved developing and implementing regional employment skills strategies.
