Dr Tom James

Impact and Partnership Development Manager

Tom completed his PhD in Environment, Energy, and Resilience with the University of Exeter in 2016. Since then he has worked for the University as a Research Fellow on interdisciplinary research projects with important implications for sustainable development policy makers and practitioners.

In this role he worked as part of an international collaboration to explore how perceptions of risk and vulnerability shape coastal adaptation in the UK, France, and South Africa. In a separate project he interrogated how ideas of resilience and wellbeing are used by environmental researchers to explain relationships between ecosystem services and poverty alleviation.

Tom was appointed as an Impact and Partnership Development Manager in October 2016. Innovation, Impact and Business enables the University's world-class research and education to make a real difference in society. IIB creates opportunities for collaborations, helping academics to generate research impact, and driving place-based innovation. Tom is responsible for supporting these activities in international sustainable development contexts with an environmental focus.

Tom's role as Impact and Partnership Development Manager is complemented by a strong portfolio of skills in project management and consultancy in development, organisational change, and environmental change contexts. He has developed these skills across HE and FE contexts, in a fast-growing SME, and through his own consultancy firm.

Tom is here to support you with your impact and partnership questions or opportunities so please do get in touch.
