Alex’s role is to support business engagement and impact development involving research collaboration with industry and government partners. Alex leads in project and partnership development specifically around land-use, food security, agritech and environmental economics, and manages key relationships with Defra, the wider ‘Defra family’ including the Environment Agency, Natural England, Cefas and the Eden Project.
Additionally, Alex supports and leads in a wide range of collaborative and institutional bids including ESIF, ERDF and ESF, Research Councils UK and Innovate UK.
Alex joined the University more than six years ago but has spent more than 18 years working at the interface of science, innovation, research, business and society within the context of environment, sustainability and land-use planning.
He has a wide range of experience working for a number of regional, local and international organisations in both the private and public sector, has been a director for several successful companies and has a proven track record in bid writing and fund raising. He has good networks and links across the environment sector regionally and internationally.
Alex has also worked as a core team member of a number of specific research and impact projects, notably the NERC Innovation Project TELLUS HOW, which sought to develop new business opportunities from environmental data, and Professor Katrina Brown’s prestigious AXA Outlook Project 'You Me and Our Resilience: Cross cultural insight into poverty, climate change and resilience.'
