Overview

Role

Tom leads the University's impact and partnership development activities in international development and the environment. This involves establishing research collaborations and driving research impact with international non-governmental organisations, multi and bilateral organisations, government bodies, and commercial partners. Tom supports scientists whose work addresseses interactions between environmental / climate change and international development issues including resilience, adaptation, poverty and inequalities, migration and urbanisation, and systems of governance and policy.

Additionally, Tom supports and leads in a wide range of collaborative and institutional bids including GCRF, DfID, and the broader RCUK portfolio.

 

Profile

Tom is an environmental social scientist by training and has published as lead and co-author on scientific papers addressing development issues relating to resilience, transformation, wellbeing, and ecosystem services for poverty alleviation. Tom completed his PhD in Environment, Energy, and Resilience with the University of Exeter in 2016. Since then he has worked for the University as a Research Fellow on interdisciplinary research projects with important implications for international development and environment policy makers and practitioners.

Tom's role as Impact and Partnership Development Manager is complemented by a strong portfolio of skills in project management and consultancy in development, organisational change, and environmental change / low carbon contexts. These skills have beem developed across HE and FE sectors, in a fast-growing SME, and through his own consultancy firm.
