Overview

Role

Tom leads the University's International Development and Environment innovation portfolio. He is Technical Co-Director to UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions Lot 1), and Programme Manager to EEIST (Economics of Energy Innovation and Systems Transition).

Tom brings extensive experience in developing and securing science-innovation partnership and impact opportunities in: Climate Resilience, Adaptation, and Mitigation; Nature Based Solutions; Environmental Intelligence; Sustainable Cities; Renewable Energy; Agricultural Transitions; and Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He is the University's Met Office Partnerships Manager, and leads Professional Services Support for Exeter's Met Office Academic Partnership.

 

Profile

Tom is an environmental social scientist by training and has published as lead and co-author on scientific papers addressing development issues relating to resilience, transformation, wellbeing, and ecosystem services for poverty alleviation. Tom completed his PhD in Environment, Energy, and Resilience with the University of Exeter in 2016. Since then he has worked for the University as a Research Fellow on interdisciplinary research projects with important implications for international development and environment policy makers and practitioners.

Tom's role as Impact and Partnership Development Manager is complemented by a strong portfolio of skills in project management and consultancy in development, organisational change, and environmental change / low carbon contexts. These skills have beem developed across HE and FE sectors, in a fast-growing SME, and through his own consultancy firm.
