Supplementary grants available
Supplementary Erasmus mobility grants are available for students with severe disabilities. Please contact the Erasmus Officer by email or phone 01392 723841 for further information.
Additional finance for those studying in France is available, information available from Caisse d'Allocation Familiale (CAF) - Etudiants.
Priority country supplement
The following destinations have been identified by the UK National Agency as Priority Countries: Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. Students on an Erasmus placement during the academic year 2012/13 attending one of these countries will receive a one off supplementary allowance of €400. Students will not have to apply for this supplementary allowance.
Scholarship (Germany and France Only)
The Mrs Bessie Rook Memorial Scholarship of approximately £500 is available on a competitive basis to students studying in Germany or France. For more information contact the Taught Faculty Office.
Student Loans
While you are abroad, you may still apply for a student loan although this may be easier to arrange before you leave. You should contact Student Finance England who will assess your eligibility for both tuition fees and loan support during your year abroad. Your application must be made to Student Finance England within four months of the start of the academic year, i.e. before 1 January 2012.
Students studying in France
If you are a student in France you will entitled to claim housing benefit to help with your rent. This is done by the Caisse d'Allocation Familiale (CAF). Once you have a place to stay you can apply online.
Hardship Fund
The Government gives every university funds each year to assist students who need extra financial support because they have higher that expected costs. Most awards from the Fund are in the form of grants, although some short term loans may be available to meet temporary hardship such as delayed Student Maintenance Loan or severe cash-flow problems.
