Module description
For organisations to achieve their objectives effectively and efficiently requires the involvement of managers who are responsible for planning, organising, leading and controlling the human and other resources. This module introduces and explains the main business functions and considers the contribution made by theories to the practice of management. The module utilises a range of current business case studies so that concepts and theories explored during this module can be applied to actual businesses and current management and leadership news.
For this module there is neither a requirement for prior knowledge of management, nor pre-requisites or co-requisites.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The aim of this module is to give an introduction to the characteristics of organisations and familiarity with business aims, objectives, strategy, planning and corporate social responsibility. Whilst exploring the main functional areas of business, the principles of management, culture, leadership and motivation are areas of focus.
The terminology of management will be presented in English and practised through listening, reading, speaking and writing.

Re-assessment notes
The grade for the referred exam, and therefore the module grade, will be capped at 40%. Re-Assessment, which is available only if coursework has been completed, will not include coursework marks as the resubmission of coursework (Group Report and Presentation) is impractical given end-of-programme time constraints.
Deferred exams will not be capped. Marks for the Group Report & Presentation will be included in the module grade, all group members will receive the same grade.
