Language classes for spouses and partners
Classes for spouses and partners of international students and staff (the Family Class)
The Family Class is a free English language course offered by the University for spouses/partners of international students studying at Exeter University. There is a ten-week
course of lessons in each University term. The classes occur twice a week and each lasts for two hours.
The content is intended to develop English skills. Additionally, it will give students more knowledge about the UK, increasing their confidence in dealing with life here and helping
them to obtain greater benefit from their time in this country.
One of the weekly classes focuses on grammar and useful language to help effective communication and understanding; the other has a cultural and discussion focus, aiming to give a
wider knowledge of how British society works. It also aids the development of English fluency. Students are encouraged to suggest topics for inclusion in the timetable. In addition, since there is a wide mix of nationalities in the class, we tend to learn a lot about each other’s culture. The class atmosphere is relaxed; it is a safe space to learn, ask questions and discuss concerns. For timetable and class details please visit the timetable page.
