Chinese Ministry visits Exeter

On Thursday 23rd September the University of Exeter welcomed a delegation of senior officials from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, including Mr Zhou Zixue the Ministry’s Chief Economist.  Other members of the delegation included representatives from China’s Ministry of Finance and Beihang University.

The purpose of the visit was to learn how British universities are responding to a rapidly changing Higher Education landscape, and in particular how they are taking up the challenge of internationalisation. The three universities chosen in the UK for this visit were Exeter, Cambridge and Bristol.  Said Dr Shaun Curtis, Director of International Exeter, “this was an excellent opportunity for our Chinese colleagues to learn how a university like Exeter is taking forward internationalisation, and investing in its students, staff and campuses. We were delighted that the delegation singled out Exeter as one of the leading universities in the UK, and selected us as one of the institutions they wanted to visit. China remains at the forefront of our Internationalisation Strategy, and I was pleased that we were able to discuss with the delegation the role played in our strategy by the representative offices we have recently opened in Shanghai and Beijing.”

The delegation met with representatives from the International Office, Research and Knowledge Transfer, the Careers and Employability Service, and Planning Services. The visit concluded with a meeting chaired by Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Janice Kay, and a short walking tour of the historic city of Exeter.
